National Puzzlers League Plays Giant Boggle

Coming back after a day of sightseeing in Boston, we came upon a bunch of people in the courtyard, holding up letters. We should have had a clue... the hotel has been full of people with odd name tags and very social elevator behavior. They know how to play.

I asked what was happening. "We're playing Boggle. The teams are up on the 10th, 11th, 12th and 14th floor."

They shuffle the letters

Then the teams have a set period of time to call in their words via cell phone.

The winning word this round...

Score was kept by team (floor) on the stairs.

We went upstairs for the bird's eye view...

As one of those who was playing -- thanks for posting the photos! It was, as you supposed, a lot of fun. Glad you enjoyed it too.

It was truly a hoot to play. Kudos to the team that put the game together just the night before.

As one of the designers of the game (and one of the guys up in the second floor "skybox" phoning teams to get the words, etc.) I'm thrilled to see these pictures. I barely got the chance to run up for a bird's-eye view, and never saw it from ground level.

Glad you enjoyed our frivolity -- come to L.A. next year , and see what we cook up on that hotel's front steps.

it should be noted (for those who don't already know) that this game was conceived, invented, planned, tweaked, and put on by 4 NPL members all over the course of little more than 24 hours. it was outstanding and sure to be the stuff of legends for years to come. Kudos to them!

Social elevator behavior? *raises hand tentatively* That may have been me. Sorry. Anyway, thanks for taking these pics. May I use them on my Livejournal?

Thank you so much for posting these! This was one of the high points of the convention for me, as much for the reaction of passers-by as for the game itself (which I also enjoyed). I was kicking myself for not thinking to bring a camera to the Con, because I wanted pictures of this to show everyone at home. Thanks for making sure I bruised myself to no purpose! I'm glad you found us blog-worthy. :D

To whomever asked if they can share the photos on their livejournal site, please, go ahead. Sorry for the slow response. Now back from vacation and back online. It was great to come home to all these comments!
