E-serenity, now!

E-serenity, now! from the Christian Science Monitor via Jeffrey Veen.

Uh, with my firehose of posts I think I am one of the candidates for an Information Sabbath. Definitely food for thought!

Oh, and I know David Levy too.  So does Bill.  How about you?

Nope, I don't know him. My sister dated a really nice guy named David Levy 25+ years ago, but I think he lives in Chicago now. (What made me say that?)

Funny, there is a David Levy who wrote a lot about computer chess at one time.  I mean the one at the Wazoo School of Information Science that Veen quoted a lot.

About eSerenity.  The way I notice how much I miss serenity is when it shows up unexpectedly.

Vicki and I traveled to Kaua'i in April for her first reunion with her son since he undertook a two-year monastic retreat.

The day of arrival I cratered Compagno, my Windows XP laptop, while configuring for the wireless access point where we were staying.  This was a serious misshap.  Windows couldn't start up and I would learn about something called the Recovery Console before I was done.  That is now permanently installed on my system; I hope to never deal with it again.

I set the computer aside, with fingers crossed, until I returned home nine days later.  I arranged to do what work I could using a pen and my spiral-bound notebook.  I turned over my attention to Vicki, our hosts, our friends and our son.

I spent a few hours on each of seven days at the Hindu Monastery on Kaua'i.  At the end I began noticing how serene it was for me and what a dramatic contrast that was to the anxious way I have been in the rest of my life.  I remarked that I could simply not leave and remain in that serene state indefinitely.

We've been back for over a month.  I easily forget to attend to the needs of the soul until something reminds me that I am not.  Thanks for inviting my attention back to what matters.
