Bad Dream? I am a BLOGGER!
Sometime in that Sunday-morning-post-dawn-but-really-I-CAN-sleep-in-falling-back-to-sleep I had a dream. I can't recall the details, but I was having a bad experience with someone: a store, a vendor, whatever. The situation was resolved, but tenuously and I was not really happy. The person involved was not to sure things were ok. She (I think it was a she) said something to the effect that "we've taken care of the problem, so now you will forget about it, right?" Like she had to hush me up.
In the dream, I was walking away. I turned back and said with a very vindictive smile, "I'm a blogger." And a look of fear spread on her face.
As I think back on this dream, it highlights two things. I'm sick, sick, sick to be dreaming of blogging, but that's not new. I dream about online bulletin board postings as well. My dreams see no boundaries between my worklife, my online and offline life. All's fair game.
The second thing, the disturbing thing, was the sense of power implicit in my comment to the woman. No, it was my THREAT to the woman. I did not like the sense of retaliation implied, but I did like the power of having a voice that freed me from simply trying to get a business to make right on something.
Conflicting feelings.

Oh Nancy! I have to say I loved your dream. You see, since I have really been online, not counting the time as a young teen when online interaction consisted of a computer with a tape drive, a modem hooked to a rotary phone and a number for a name...but really the past 10 years(I know this because my middle child is the same age as my time rather professionally, even if addictively online) I have from time to time had similar dreams. The first a disorienting experience of dreaming in chat text, later message boards, and now, blogs and web design (you haven't dreamed until you are trying to sort out ex husbands and various and sundry coworkers by "containing them then formatting them properly" in css.)

Flashback: Nancy-Joe Friday, appears at the vendor's door, flips out her LABD (Los Angeles Blogger Department) badge... "Listen hotshot, I am a Blogger and there is an IP address for people like you..."

Nancy I am fascinated by the dream and loved the posting. I was also intrigued by your statement: "My dreams see no boundaries between my worklife, my online and offline life". That's partly because I have the same boundary fuzziness but also, ironically, because I look to you as someone who does manage to keep the boundaries.

I'm having a wonderful LOL moment, Bev. I may externally keep pretty clear boundaries, but internally -- well, it's all a mush!
