del.icio.us/tag/community_indicators
I'm thrilled and thankful to see others starting to use the del.icio.us/tag/community_indicators tag. A big thank you to Gail, ThatWoman, Sour Duck, Lilia, Tom and Beth. If I forgot ya, holler!

I'm quite curious about this delicious thing, but haven't had the time to look into it yet. I got curious because I saw more and more delicious links at blogs I subscribe to...
I sort of don't see the point - is it to make what you bookmark transparent? I barely have the time to read things I bookmark, much less other people's! :)
But even if I did have the time - how is it useful? Sure, it's nice to know Elisa Camahort bookmarked some of my posts - but how is it useful for me to know she's bookmarked some of my posts? How do I read that? The personal motives for bookmarking are left ambiguous - aren't they?
I'm posting alot of newbie questions because I've found this to be a useful site for discussions. Not because I'm being lazy not doing my own research. Oh no. ;)
I just kind of use it so I don't have to put so any darn links in my blog posts. I'm already such a linkaholic. This way, I can share my links and internet travels but also get some cool links all in one place.
Videobloggers are using social bookmarks to tag videos they like with the "watch this" tag. And there is also a video cookbook happening:

Having explored some other people's del.icio.us bookmarks some more, and re-reading my earlier comments: I suppose not all things need to be *useful*. There's a big fun element to cruising someone's bookmarks, especially if you have some sort of an emotional connection to that blogger.
And I hadn't realized the categories facility that del.icio.us offers. So, it looks like it's useful for those who want to organize their bookmarks.
I may give it a whirl, but, after my recent experiences with Technorati, I'm left wondering:
If I allow myself to become invested in / dependant on another third party app, will it somehow bite me in the b*tt down the road?
Also: is it just another tool in the (politically loaded) "popularity game"?
Renegade - Thanks for the explanation of how you use del.icio.us and also the pointer to the vlogg cookbook page there. I'll go check it out. :)
Nancy!!! Now you've just put more delicious pressure on me! I've been avoiding delicious for a long time and now THIS.
About social bookmarking and the questions sour duck asked - I wasn't sure about all of this in the beginning. TW dragged me into with Friendster which didn't work well AT ALL and then to Spurl which works great. We started doing this so we could share our bookmarks with each other more easily. (We work in a similar field and have a similar background in online communities)
I've tried to convince some of my friends to take a look at my spurls, they're linked on my blog, because they often ask me for links to information or ideas and it would be easier for all of us if they'd just click my spurls and look for the tags or categories. But, they are lazy or something, and always just wait for me to spoon feed them. If that one small group of people actually clicked my spurls, all of our lives would be easier... someday, they'll get it.
And on another note, I flipped through Nancy's delicious and found a post that was really interesting to me from a homeschooling mom perspective. It was about using blogs and poetry and it's a great idea for my 15 year old poetry loving daughter. If Nancy hadn't delicioused that, I wouldn't have found it because it was a post from months and months ago.
Like I said, I'm dragging my feet on delicious. I don't have time for one more thing in my life, ya know? But it's getting harder and harder to ignore it and harder and harder to keep it from making an appearance on the top of my to do list.
Nancy - I tagged some pictures of cafe bulletin boards on Flickr and on delicious with community_indicator. Nothing like taking a quick read for a physical place by seeing who has put their flyer up there.
