Frappr! Map Yourself with Me!
Via Beth, I had to play with Frappr!, a google map hack that allows you to place yourself on a US map. Beth suggests it might be a nice way to help a distributed group have some sense of where folks are, and if they add a photo, get a "group picture" out of it!
My message board communities have been using these maps since shortly after Katrina. There was considerable confusion about who was in the path and who wasn't. The maps helped them keep track of who was safe, based on the news reports, and who was still possibly in danger when the other hurricanes came through.
Oooh - I was just about to post a stinging comment along the lines of "as ever, the world obviously doesn't exist outside of the Continental United States" - such comment *not* directed at you Nancy, but at the Frappr bods - when Harold's comment obviously indicates otherwise. So, *now* the challenge is - can you make your Frappr map aware of the fact that there is another country (or 200+) outwith the US, Canada and Mexico...? ;)

Here's an international Frappr map of educational bloggers: Edubloggers

Harold's link led me to exactly the same thought. Off to figure it out!
