I'd imagine that you could create a blogging analog to the telephone conversation. That you could have a party line where people leave short messages, the messages are mixed into a long conversation. People add to the conversation at their liesure. They do not have to be present.

This may be obvious to someone who's been Podcasting for some time, but it is new to me.

I like the idea of staccto audio conversations, that are not live, since it may lower the bariers for participation for people that are accustomed to talking in person or on the phone.

Will look into this. Thank you.

I have a question. When I send voicemail, I perceive it's easy: no typing, no thinking, just talking. When I get voicemail, I perceive it's a bit of a pain: no visual record, no skimming, no careful study. When I think a bit more about voicemail as a sender, I think of other disadvantages: no editing, typically no planning in advance.

I saw Vaestro and thought the same features might apply: it might seem easy for senders, it might be a pain for recipients, and it might foster poorer communications.

So I'm curious. How does it work in practice. For recipients/listeners, what do you really get out of it? For senders: do you script your messages (write them out) and edit them before you record them, or do you improvise? Have you compared what you say off the cuff with what you might write?

Or is this a mere aural/visual preferences issue?

Bill, so far my work with audio has been using audio as an adjunct and not the sole method of interaction. The "hearing of voice," for example, at the beginning of a primarily asynchronous intereaction, helps some people build trust and gain a better sense of each other. It offers those with an aural and speaking preference a chance to shine and have a break from all text.

As for scripted, you know me. I don't script. I trip, but no script! When I hear a more scripted posting, I'm less enthused. But for some, that may be the only way they are comfortable.

Others?
