I don't like Plaxo either
It is always good to see one is not alone. I did not like Plaxo from the getgo and I still get Plaxo spam and you can't get RID of it unless you join. Bah. Bit this is more than about annoyance.apophenia: AIM and Plaxo: "Why why why can't Plaxo go away? I don't want it to connect the dots between who i AIM and who i email and who has me in their addressbook. I don't want a universal addressbook controlled by some external organization that i don't trust that spams my friends and keeps data hostage. I don't like the lack of transparency and the massive amounts of data that they have. I do not trust them, Sam I am."
And here.
I like to sign up and try things. Experimentation is part of my work practice. But each time I do, I wonder what I'm really getting myself into. Sigh.

are there any plaxo alternatives that you would recommend?
I found a link from boingboing
http://www.boingboing.net/2004/04/06/how_to_optout_of_pla.html
to this
https://www.plaxo.com/opt_out
where you can permanently opt out of all emails from plaxo
Unfortunately I have not researched alternatives. Sorry!
Has anyone of you heard of unyk.com? One of my contacts uses it and I received an email to join in - but could not find any useful information on it. Not sure if I can trust them...
Hello,
My name is Aurelie Lacroix, and I am a web analyst at UNYK.com.
We are in fact a great alternative to Plaxo. A few things that makes us great(and I will engage in shameless self promotion here):
- Unyk is much simpler than Plaxo, and its interface is more easy to use (we pride ourselves in reaching to be the BEST online adress book)
- We are fully secure and let YOU control completely who has access to your information
- We synchronise with Outlook
- We don't SPAM
I suggest you try it out at www.unyk.com. Do not hesitate to connect with me, my Unyk ID is Aurelie.
Have a great day!
