2007 SXSW Interactive Panel Proposal Picker (Round Two)
OK, I finally got my act together to propose three panels for SXSW. I guess I should tell y'all so if you are interested, you might vote for them. 2007 SXSW Interactive Panel Proposal Picker (Round Two).
They are all weird and not on my usual topics for conferences:
Chocolate, Our Dark Master: Tired of tech? Ready for a hit of hedonism? Come join an hour of choc-talk - where it is made, what we love about it, why we eat it, write about it, obsess about it. What is YOUR favorite? (Miscellaneous category)
Is it Time for the Culture of Love? The US and parts of the globe have been driven by a culture of fear in recent years. We are scared of this, scared of that. It fuels a culture that glorifies conflict. Of us vs. them. Of expertise over local knowledge. What if we took a breath and considered the culture of love? How would we design differently? Blog differently? Lead differently?
and finally...
5x5xSXSW: What I Learned at 5 Days of SXSW: With a team of 5 writers, podcasters, and vodcasters, we'll capture the key "blings" and "aha's" from the sessions we attend and on the final day, share our zeitgeist. No, no pressure! OF COURSE! Each of the team will have 5 minutes max to share their story, then we'll compare notes with the audience. What did YOU learn? What would you want to learn next time?

Part of me would love the chocolate one, but the Culture of Love one really sounds interesting. I don't have a problem finding folks to talk to chocolate about, but shifting focus to developing a more engaged and loving community might really be the kick in the pants we need.
well, as the owner of the Candy Blog, I'm surprised you could resist chocolate. But when you think about it, chocolate IS part of the culture of love!
What if we took a breath and considered the culture of love?
How would we design differently?
Blog differently?
Lead differently?
Excellent questions, I hope you tell us you answers sooner rather than later... ;-)

My vote goes to "The Culture of Love" Nancy - have been thinking about how fear drives what we do in education as part of a Future of Learning in a Networked World (un) conference open space Tour roaming New Zealand this week. You should check it out and see if you can link in with some of the conversations - is just magical and all about a culture of love
We are willing enough to praise freedom when she is safely tucked away in the past and cannot be a nuisance. In the present, amidst dangers whose outcome we cannot foresee, we get nervous about her, and admit censorship. E.M.Forster
Artichoke, I will definitely check out the conversations. I have kept up a tiny bit through Stephen's blog.
By the way, here is the url for the site you mentioned... http://flnw.wikispaces.com/ somehow blogger messed up the other one.
David, at this point I don't think I have answers, but trying to figure out the right questions.
I received some feedback the other day that got me thinking. A friend wondered why I was so generous with the stuff I did... why I helped out in online groups I belonged to and tried to put all of my work out and available to others.
I have had others ask me if I feared people would steal my stuff.
I realized that what I feared was only that what I offered had no value, that it wasted time and attention. That "stealing" it was a compliment and affirmation of love, not fear.
So I find fear in that as well -- fear of not being of value, and, a bit selfishly, of not being appreciated. So the trick, even at that mundane level, is to change my mindset from fear of lack, to wonder at presence and abundance.
It is all there. It matters then how I think about it and let that thinking guide my next step.
When I post a snarky post at the expense of someone else, without constructive suggestions, I'm feeding my own fears.
Does that make ANY sense? I'm babbling on a Saturday afternoon.
This is actually my very first blog entry ever!I am exploring the world of blogs because I believe in my heart that connecting with others is essential to connecting with our own true self - which is grounded in love but gets sidetracked by fear. A wise person once told me, "We all just want to be happy." We'll get what we want a lot faster through love than thru fear. Go Girl! (I'm only going anonymous because the link to become a user isn't working on my browser...)
Hey, anon, it is GREAT to have someone post their first blog post on one's blog. You made me quite happy!
I'm trying to guess who you are. I have an idea...
