Blog Makeover - Need Your Help
Well, the process is finally in motion. I'll be migrating both my blog and my full "sure looks like 1998" weblog to Wordpress, along with a new look and feel. DRAMATIC! Of course, I've been meaning to do this for years. What can I say.
You can see the generic template testing site here. (This url is short lived.)I'm searching for photos to replace the default picture. Here is what I've played with so far. What do you think? Please leave comments here or on the Flickr page.
Blog Makeover - a photoset on Flickr

I like it, but I'm not sure that it's un-1998-like. I mean, all prefab blogs (LJ, WP, TP, Blogspot, et al.) tend to have a slightly retro look. Still, perhaps it'll get rid of your posting problems.
Here is some of the great feedback folks have left on the flickr images. THANKS!!

I'm no designer, so it's hard to go from my mental image of the blog pasting the various pictures mentally. But this photo stands out to me as the best for the reasons that drumsnwhistles cites. I did go back to the site and think it would look good too.
That said, from the pictures you selected, it seems like a nature theme would make you happy. Even if you can't quite put your finger on the reasons, go with what you like best.

I like 'em all - I'd just use a random image rotation script to pump them out. If I had to pick _one_ I'd pick the "covercoast" one, but that's a bit impersonal... Maybe something with chocolate in it? ;-)

Of the pictures of you, I like the one of you peeking out from behind the big leaf is the best. It's a little playful and has more personality than the other pictures of you.
I'm partial to blue hydrangeas personally, so I do like that one. But that's just an emotional reaction and I know that. All the flower pictures are gorgeous, but I'm not sure what they say about your blog. Do they send a message?

And if you want to stay in nature, then this is the best one -- it conveys the 'full circle' idea best, in my opinion.

I also like this one -- it's strangely inviting and quirky. I'm not so sure it so clearly conveys what your blog is about visually, but still...I like it.
Have you considered any of your conference art as a possibility?

Nancy, I'm leaving a comment here on Flickr because I can't get your blog post to load about which headers would work best for your new blog home. :)
All of the photos in this set are incredible. But I faved a couple that I think best represent what your blog is about. With that said, any one of these would be perfect for the blog. It's just that some are more perfect than others. ;-)

Hi Nancy, I like the new blog look. I thought about moving when John said it's easier in Wordpress to add static pages to your blog. Did you contemplate integrating blogger in your website? And do you transfer your blogger blog or do you start afresh with a new blog?
Joitske, yup, I'm going to use WP for the static pages on my site too. But phew, moving and updating an old, sprawling website is quite a bit of work. Some static pages which are highly linked too I'll just do a bit of an image make over and not recreate them in WP. Others will be done all anew!
